Statements of Support.
In this moment, it isn’t enough to simply ‘not be racist.’ You must be anti-racist.
Death of George Floyd
The murder of George Floyd by officers of the Minneapolis Police Department was the final straw that broke the camel’s back. We saw protests, marches, demostrations, sit-ins, boycotts, and unrest - all while still dealing with a global health crisis. Fortune 500 companies and nonprofit organizations alike knew they had to respond, and do so in a fast, but clear, concise, and reaffirming matter. Luckily for the Moran Center and Community Renewal Society, it wasn’t far-fetched, because both organizations serve marginalized populations.
For the Moran Center, I worked with the executive director and board chair to write a statement that acknowledged the pain and suffering of Black Americans and reaffirm their lives, but also doubling down on the agency’s commitment to serving justice for our clients and community - no matter the cost.
Deliverables:
Communications Strategy
Project Management
Copywriting
Affirmation of Black Lives
Email Campaign
Social Media Campaign
Outcome:
When you stand firm in your beliefs and commitments as an organization, it makes life easier. After getting the statement approved by the board of directors, I established a communications and email marketing plan to distribute the statement to friends, donors, board members, staff, media, and the general public. I then established an “alert bar” than ran across all pages of the website that had a link back to the statement. The response was overwhelming. Many we heard from were appreciative of the work at the Moran Center and vowed to continue to support the agency’s efforts to continuing building justice.
